On September 9th, Vice President Joseph Biden, a Scranton native, returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania and surveyed the damage wrought by the recent flood. Joe Van Wie, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, was invited to a non-political meeting onboard Air Force Two.

Also in attendance were Russell Preno Jr. and his son, Russell Preno III, owners of Russell’s Restaurant on Ash Street, and Biden’s childhood friend Tom Bell.

“It’s impossible not to really like Joe Biden,” Tom Bell said. “He’s a nice person. He was raised that way – he’s always been that way.”

During the private meeting, Joseph Biden remarked on Joe Van Wie’s luxurious mane of hair. The Vice President was heard to remark, “Jo-Jo, if I had your head of hair I’d be president!”
